Home Improvement Help

How frustrating is it to try to get work done on the house?

Our house is new but just getting little things fixed has been so time consuming. The one good thing about me being unemployed is not having to ask off work a zillion times a week.

Let's see it started with the mirror in the Master that had a scratch on it. A scratch that would not have bothered me but drove my husband crazy. I had to wait between 8-12 one day to have the owner come and just measure, the next day 8-12 to have the guys come to install, but surprise to me once they had the scratched mirror ripped off the wall they didn't have my mirror on their truck, so once again another 8-12 wait for the mirror to get there be installed (after the installer scratched my wall) , but to my surprise after he had it up it had a scratch on it plus it was the wrong style mirror so that meant another 8-12 for the mirror to finally be installed correctly.

The countertop in the bathroom which started out with a chip. The installer comes and saws off the existing countertop then he comes out with a blush to say they sent the wrong color replacement. YIKES!! So I had to wait another week for the correct one to arrive.

This doesn't count the days I had to wait for the corian guy, the grout guy, the HVAC guy, the lighting guy and the drywall guy. How do people do it that have to ask off work? Bosses would have to get so mad about it.

Now we have decided that we need to screen in our covered patio. Like most consumers I want to get a few bids. I called someone that was a member of the better business bureau and it took a week to get a call back, although he did come the next day to give me the estimate. Then I called a company whose flyer I received in the mail and I have yet to get a call from them and it has been two weeks. Last Friday I got a name from our home builder and gave them a call and was told it would be 72 hours for a call back just to set an appointment. Well now we are looking at 96 hours and I just called the company and was told it would be 30 minutes. I am not betting that my phone will ring that quick.

Now I understand that the guys that were handling the warranty stuff on the house probably weren't in any rush. The jobs were small and I am sure the $$ was too. But the screening contractors I don't get. I believe that maybe they need to take a operations management class. How many customers are they losing? I am two seconds away from calling the first estimate and going with it.

Where is customer service these days?? TELL ME PLEASE
