My Husband's Hobbies

My husband's brain never stops. The smallest thing can set him off in a direction that can result in days or weeks of research, money spent and hours of planning. Sometimes it dies with that other times it expands into years of hobby accessories. Other times it ends in him having a great depression.

Two weeks ago I asked my husband to buy a "money tree". There was a plant booth that had them on sale for $8. I told my better half that recently that I had purchased one for a friend of ours for $50. Once the words came out of my mouth I knew that would send him off on a tangent. Now for the last two weekends he has been researching bonsai's. He discovered that there were many varieties and some common plants can be used to create beautiful mini trees.

Now we have spent $40 on books another $40 on pots luckily only $8 for two plants and he has some soil mixture components he must buy the ingredients for this week. He has spent a ton of time and it is all he talks about.

Let's see some of his other hobby's are: BBQ Competitons which has resulted in about $2000 in smokers, $6000 for a trailer (we don't even have a place to park and it is at my in-laws in another state) and each competition results in about $600-$1000 for a weekend. His novel writing hobby is his cheapest hobby and only cost about $20 for a couple of books. I guess it is not a hobby but a continous searching for a get rich quick scheme tests my patience. Before we married he spent much money on these plans, but I have curtailed that for the last seven years. In the garage I have the parts to a drag racing bike from prior to a marriage. I have moved this bike to 3 states. I have never seen him do a thing to it except help me move it from one side of the garage to another.

I am tired. Why can't he choose a hobby like home repair that would actually save us money or auto repair which again would save the family budget.

Guess I don't have much room to talk I am still unemployed. Simply selling a few items on ebay and doing a bit of mystery shopping, but with this said you would think he would not spend extra $$$ on new hobby accessories.
