It's been a week

Boy what a terrible blogger I am to be out of the loop for an entire week. This was also my last week of freedom before I start my new job so you would think I would be writing everyday. Much to my husband's joy I got offered a job after one interview. With the economy the way it is I am very lucky.

When marriage wasn't even in my mine I was so ambitious. I had decided I was going to be the first female vice president of the company that I was working for at that time. Working 70 hours a week didn't phase me. Working with a fever of 102 didn't delay my arrival and departure (of course I bet the employees had wished I had kept my germy self home). Missing family functions, not having time for dates, taking work home, drinking beer and eating Swanson Turkey and Dressing Frozen dinners were all normal activities for me.

Then one day at a friend of mine's house I see this cutey watching a UT vs. LSU ballgame and my momenum shifted. It was harder to put in those hours, easier to really take time off to be with him, but with that came a sense that I wasn't putting my all into my job. That I was letting down the company because I wasn't there. Sounds weird, but I felt quilty about having a life.

We became serious and I thought I needed to make the decision between being a future VP and being a good girlfriend and fiance. I left that job because I couldn't leave him and I felt it was one or the other.

At that point my career equilibrium began to waiver and now after 8 years it is all but gone.

I had a friend recently change her whole career choice. Spurred by a layoff she went back to school obtained her masters and became a teacher. She is so happy. She told me that I needed to find something I really want to do and then go after it. Pretty cliche, but I repect her and I thought on it a while. I can't answer the question.

So off I go on Monday to a new job, a job not a career.
