Best Buy - Good Or Bad

This morning I set out to do a return at Best Buy or at least try to do the return. I walked in expecting that I would be walking out unhappy.

As I have written we are leaving on vacation soon. A week ago we decided that I needed a larger memory card for the digital camera. We had seen a Best Buy advertisement for a 4 GB High Capacity Memory card for $39.95 so off we went. When we got there we found the item very easily. We knew the physical size for the card was correct but were concerned that because our camera was not brand spanky new that it might not work. My husband went and found a sales associate who said we were buying the correct thing. Being the sceptic of the duo I asked another associate who asked what kind of camera we had and we I told him Canon he told me that was designed for a Canon and there would be no problem. Famous last words, luckily I decided to try it out prior to leaving town and of course it didn't work.

After working many years in retail I knew that it was almost impossible to return items that had been broken out of the plastic containers so I went into Best Buy expecting that I had blown $39.95. Imagine my surprise when the young man said he knew exactly why the memory card didn't work and he had had to return several of these (I thought to myself maybe because your sales staff is telling people the wrong thing, but I kept quiet). He recommended a 2 GB memory card that should still be able to help me make it through our vacation without downloading. He did the exchange with no questions asked and was very gracious and customer friendly. I even walked away with a bit of a refund. Before I left the store I did recommend that maybe he tell someone in the camera area in management to school the associates on these cards to help Best Buy control the number of returns of the item.

Now I am writing this because I had heard some negative things about Best Buy and doing returns there so I wanted to share my positive experience. Since March we have purchased a refrigerator, washer and dryer, weather radio and now this media card and can say that all have gone smoothly.
